The tiny settlement of Platfontein outside Kimberley in the Northern Cape is extremely easy to miss. Despite being only 15km outside the province’s capital and having a population of about 7 000 San people, there’s not a single direction marker at any of the city’s exit roads indicating how to get there. Nor are there any road signs or markings indicating the barely visible turn to get into the village just off the R31 national road.
