The ANC needs to move beyond denial and take responsibility for its decline, or it risks losing its majority in the 2019 general elections, author and political analyst Richard Calland has warned.

As recently as six months ago, Calland said he would have stated confidently that 2024 would be the earliest election date where the ANC’s support could fall below 50%.

However, losses at the local elections on August 3 had shifted things dramatically.
