The police were this week dispatched to Parliament to investigate what may have been a break-in at ANC-MP and National Assembly chairperson Thoko Didiza’s office.
It is understood that Didiza and her secretary informed Parliament’s security service that her office door had been locked, but was open when she arrived for work on Wednesday morning.
City Press has learnt that a group of detectives were dispatched to Parliament but, at this point in the investigation, it does not appear that anything was stolen.
Luzuko Jacobs, parliamentary spokesperson, confirmed the “alleged security breach” had been reported to police and that it was being investigated.
“Details pertaining to the matter remain unclear as the investigation continues,” he said.
Last year, EFF leader Julius Malema also reported a break-in at his office. Parliament’s two security bosses were suspended shortly afterward.
At the time, the EFF also said the door was found open and that documents were missing.
There was no sign of a break-in but it seemed as if the keys to the door between Malema’s office and that of his assistant has been changed. The EFF alleged somebody in Parliament had done this.
The DA has also previously complained that a civilian posed as a member of Parliament’s security service, the so-called White Shirts, in the National Assembly in May.
There was speculation that this man was Malema’s bodyguard, but it was never confirmed.
Jacobs said those cases had also been reported to police.
