A leaked email allegedly sent from a manager of insurance giant MiWay to her colleague about the company’s decision to reject 90% of their black clients’ claims as from August 1 has caused a furore on social media.

But the company has come out guns blazing, calling the email fake, and instituting an investigation into it.

The screenshot of the “email” reads: “This is a reminder of yesterday’s managers’ meeting. The final decision was to reject 90% claims made by black people as from August 1. They are an easy target, it’s also an opportunity to save money and punish these black baboons.”

A call to the telephone number indicated on the email confirmed through the voicemail that the number belongs to the employee.

However, she was unavailable and other efforts, including emails sent to the company, to authenticate the email have not yet been successful.

The company posted a tweet that she was indeed an employee and they were investigating the matter.

An email response from the company also read:

“Thank you for your email. We take this type of feedback seriously. We assure you that we are transparent in all our dealings, and we can confirm that such an email was not sent from MiWay.”

The furore came a few weeks after another insurance company, Outsurance was lambasted for tweeting a Father’s Day video that many believed was racist.

MiWay’s response:
