Gwede Mantashe may have been joking when he quipped that his job would kill him, but it made sure he would be trending on social media – and Twitter users wasted no time joining in.

This morning #GwedeMantashe was trending following the reaction by users to a News24 article titled “This job will kill me – Gwede Mantashe”.

In the article, Mantashe spoke about his long and strenuous time spent as the ANC secretary-general and the toll that it had taken on him.
