The leader of the ANC Youth League in the Northern Cape and the provincial secretary of Cosatu were at each other’s throats during the ANC’s provincial nomination conference because of former ANC Youth League leader Julius Malema.

It all started when provincial youth league leader Shadrack Tlhaole started his message of support with “Viva Julius Malema Viva!”

Anele Gxoyiya, provincial secretary of Cosatu, hit back, saying to stand on an ANC podium and shout Malema’s name amounted to ill-discipline. “This is the last time this is going to happen,” he said.

Tlhaole replied: “If we want to lobby for Malema, where should we do it? In the toilet?”

Tlhaole said Cosatu had abandoned their responsibility – miners were striking but they were not there to assist, he said.
