A Bloemfontein taxi driver who attacked a pedestrian in a road rage incident in the city has been sentenced to a jail term.

Aggrey Mojanaga (43) was sentenced in the Bloemfontein Magistrates’ Court to three years imprisonment during which he must stay behind bars for six months, the Volksblad newspaper reported today.

The report said Magistrate Johannes Moeng ordered that Mojanaga could be released under correctional supervision after six months if his behaviour justified it.

Mojanaga deliberately hit a homeless man, Isaac Moalahi (51) with his taxi and then kicked him against the head in Andries Pretorius Street in March this year.

Video material of the incident, which was captured on security cameras, spread on the internet.

Mojanaga was found guilty on a charge of assault with grievous body harm.
