Johannesburg - Boxing SA (BSA) says it is holding discussions with Xolisani “Nomeva” Ndongeni’s legal team. The boxer was not paid after his last fight, but BSA says it had agreed on how to resolve the matter.
Ndongeni said he was not paid R100 000 by Sijuta Promotions’ Andile Sidinile after his fight against Tanzanian Emilio Norfat at the Orient Theatre in East London on April 22.
“As BSA, we are looking into the matter. We are in discussions with the boxer’s legal team and have agreed on how best to resolve the matter,” said BSA CEO Tsholofelo Lejaka.
He said BSA would also address payments owed to other local fighters who featured on that bill: Simpiwe “V12” Vetyeka (featherweight) and Luzuko Siyo (super flyweight).
Sidinile’s bill went ahead without money being deposited into BSA’s bank account – a prerequisite – and this was in breach of the law.
According to the Boxing Act, a promoter must deposit purse money with BSA no later than 30 days prior to the showdown, or by any other date specified by BSA.
Lejaka would not elaborate on the non-payment by Premier Boxing League promoter, Dicksy Ngqula.
The former TV sports commentator owes erstwhile South African champ Ndongeni, who secured the league title in East London last February, R1 million.
He is yet to pay three fighters who participated in that bill, Makazole Tete (flyweight), Macbute Sinyabi (featherweight) and Toto Helebe (bantamweight). They are owed R200 000 each.
