Mamelodi Sundowns captain Ramahlwe Mphahlele is one of the players expected to be unveiled at Kaizer Chiefs tomorrow.
Two others who could be unmasked by the Amakhosi are Joseph Molangoane, who was on the books of Chippa United, and former Bloemfontein Celtic midfielder Keagan Buchanan.
City Press has learnt that Mphahlele could not agree to terms with Sundowns.
“He has signed with Chiefs,” said a Sundowns insider on Friday.
Many will view Chiefs’ acquisitions as a response to rivals Orlando Pirates, which this week completed the signing of Ghanaian forward Bernard Morrison, and reached agreements with Ajax Cape Town over Riyaad Norodien and Abbubaker Mobara.
Pirates chairperson Irvin Khoza said they were in talks with former Bafana Bafana captain Steven Pienaar, who is out of contract at his English Premier League side Everton.
The Buccaneers have also acquired the services of coach Muhsin Ertugral.
Chiefs supporters and football lovers will get their first taste of what to expect in the new season, and will find out whether Amakhosi is capable of challenging for honours when the club unveils some of their acquisitions tomorrow.
A number of players have been linked with a move to Naturena. Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung said it was time they put paid to the speculation with the unveiling. He said that would not be the end of their buying spree.
“There are still three or four players with whom we will soon finalise negotiations. Monday’s announcement is just to put people at ease as there have been lots of rumours,” said Motaung, revealing the new players would meet up with their team-mates on Tuesday, when the club resumes training.
Chiefs have already captured former SuperSport United defender Sibusiso Khumalo after a swap deal with Keegan Ritchie. But Motaung could not be drawn on who the new arrivals were, saying only that some were big names.
“All I know is that he [Molangoane] has a dispute with Chippa as they say he has a contract with them, while he says otherwise,” said Motaung.
Other players who have been linked with Chiefs are Enocent Mkhabela, Lebogang Manyama, Bantu Mzwakali and Kudakwashe Mahachi.
Chiefs need a total overhaul of their squad after recently saying 20 could be leaving, which included players released, loaned out or placed on the transfer list. The names include Morgan Gould and Siboniso Gaxa, while the likes of Reneilwe Letsholonyane, Reyaad Pieterse and Ritchie have moved to SuperSport.
Chiefs were also struggling to get Thapelo Morena from Celtic and Sibusiso Vilakazi of Bidvest Wits.
Meanwhile, Free State Stars finalised a three-year contract with Frenchman Denis Lavagne as their new coach after losing Giovanni Solinas at the end of the season.
