The man who beat South African swimmer Chad le Clos to gold at the Olympic Games in Rio this week has another milestone to look forward to: he is getting married.
US swimmer Michael Phelps (31) is the most decorated Olympian of all time, with a tally of 22 gold medals – and 27 medals in total.
He and his beauty-queen fiancée Nicole Johnson (31) have set the date on which to tie the knot.
Johnson opened up about their upcoming wedding to Access Hollywood in Rio on Friday.
“We have a date,” she said. “It will be small and intimate for the wedding, and then we are throwing a massive bash for everyone.”
Johnson holds a University of Southern California degree in communications and has participated in several beauty pageants. She was crowned Miss California in 2010.
The pair first started dating in 2007 and got engaged in February last year. They split in 2011, but reconciled in 2014, and have stayed strong since, reported Access Hollywood.
“We are happy,” she told the tabloid.
The pair has a three-month-old son, Boomer.
Phelps has been through some rocky patches, one of which saw him end up in rehab following an arrest for drunken driving in 2014.
