No cause for concern, everyone is happy at the SABC – Hlaudi Motsoeneng

The SABC and its staff were not in a period of turmoil, and business would continue as usual.

So said the broadcaster’s chief operations officer, Hlaudi Motsoeneng, during the SABC’s announcement of its acting chief executive today, following the resignation of Jimi Matthews yesterday.

He also said that the SABC was not guilty of censoring any content.

“What is this censorship thing, it is English so I don’t know it. There is no censorship here,” he said.

“Just because 1 or 2 people cough here, it does not mean we are all sick. All is well here at the SABC, we’re not all sick,” he said,

SABC board chairperson Professor Mbulaheni Maguvhe this afternoon announced via a conference call from the Polokwane offices to media at the SABC offices in Auckland Park, that former chief financial officer James Aguma would take up the role of acting group chief executive.

Addressing the media briefing, questions were posed to Motsoeneng about whether or not there was cause for concern given the recent turn of events within the public broadcaster.

Motsoeneng refuted claims that the SABC and its staff were in a period of turmoil, and said that business would continue as usual.

“We have touched a nerve. Transformation is non-negotiable.”

Addressing reports that there had been a revolt within the SABC following a spate of resignations from SABC journalists and Matthews, Motsoeneng said that there was no cause for concern since everybody was happy at the SABC.
