After a few cryptic Instagram posts by Bonang Matheba that showed her looking amazing on set at a photoshoot four weeks ago, City Press has learnt that she was shooting the November/December cover for Women’s Health.
Editor Danielle Weakley said: “Traditionally, we shoot a swimsuit edition every year around November/December – and I think Bonang just summed up the mood of the moment … Globally, health is about so much more than just fitness.
“She’s fit, healthy, happy and so comfortable in her own skin.”
Matheba (28) is in the best shape of her life.
“What people don’t know is my job’s not always about eating out,” Matheba said.
“I do a lot of meditating. I have a spiritual healer. There’s a lot of quiet time, relaxing. It’s a whole package that fits together. With a healthy body, spirit and mind, it all works together.
“You can drink water, eat right, and work out here and there, but you also need to make sure that your skin’s healthy; your soul is healthy; that your heart is happy; and that you do regular checkups. It’s a full-faceted thing,” she told City Press.
“In the work I do, there’s a lot of emotion. It’s fast-paced. You sometimes forget to stop and take things in.
“My spiritual healer teaches me how to appreciate and identify every moment. She teaches me how to deal with disappointment, rejection or heartbreak. She kind of helps me be Zen and keep a cool level of thinking; of mental strength; of spiritual strength.”
Matheba admits she was a little nervous about the sexy feature.
“With age comes a bit of maturity and self-confidence. I’m quite a conservative girl. The clothes I wear every day or on the red carpet, I’m always kind of very covered. It takes a lot. Even with this shoot, I’m still nervous, but I’m better than I was five or six years ago.”
The new cover hits shelves on October 21.
