Retired footballer Mark Fish is once again experiencing marital strife after his union with his second wife, Salomé Janse van Rensburg, ended in bitterness

Bafana Bafana star Mark Fish may be back on the market after an acrimonious split from his second wife, Salomé Janse van Rensburg, whom he wed in a swanky Sandton, Joburg, nightclub.

City Press has learnt from a source close to the former Bafana Bafana star and a mutual friend of the couple that the two have ended their turbulent relationship amid allegations of infidelity.

A close friend of Fish said Janse van Rensburg had called time on their relationship last year already.

The couple broke up just 10 months after they married in an intimate wedding at Taboo nightclub, which was attended by family and close friends.

Fish and Janse van Rensburg have two young children together and dated for almost six years before getting married.

“I can tell you in confidence that the two aren’t living together in the house they used to share in Welkom [Free State],” said Fish’s friend.

“Salome has moved out and she now stays with her mother, Regina, in Pretoria.”

Contacted on Friday, the retired soccer player neither confirmed nor denied the split, saying: “I have nothing to say to anyone. Whatever is happening in my life right now has nothing to do with anyone. Please also respect that I have two young kids.”

But his friend said Fish and Janse van Rensburg were in a “toxic relationship”, which “wasn’t good for their young children”.

“It was really bad,” the friend said.

The couple’s mutual friend confirmed that the marriage ended not long after it began.

“I’m surprised that this story is only coming out now. In fact, they were literally married for six months, after which Salomé moved out of their home. A month later, she went back,” the friend said.

The friend added that the couple finally called it quits in December last year, after deciding that they couldn’t live together any more.

“It was really messy,” she said.

Pictures posted on Janse van Rensburg’s Instagram account show that she has moved on with her life. They also feature a new man.

In April, she posted a picture of her new beau with her children, which she captioned: “La Familia! My life, my loves, my family!”

The relationship with the man, who goes by “Ryan Vonh” on Instagram, also appears to be serious. In the same month, he posted a picture of himself and Janse van Rensburg, under which he wrote: “Shouldn’t I. Now that’s the big question.”

Janse van Rensburg’s mother, however, denied that her daughter had a new man in her life.

“No, she doesn’t have a boyfriend,” she said.

Commenting on her daughter’s separation from Fish, she said it was “old news”.

It’s not the first time that the former Orlando Pirates and Lazio man has found himself in a messy marriage. In 2009, Fish and his former wife, lingerie model and socialite Loui, split up. Their divorce was finalised in 2011.

In her 164-page autobiography published the following year, Walking In My Choos, Loui labels Fish a cocaine-sniffing, stripper-loving, serial cheat. He, in turn, said she was a “compulsive liar”.

In her book, Loui says her partner of 11 years was a good husband and father, but she also branded him a “verbally abusive, cheating monster”.

Fish told City Press at the time the book was published that the tell-all was “my ex’s desperate means to make money”.
