Nigerian designer Jason Porshe (22) has a new collection that challenges norms about what is acceptable and expected for menswear and womenswear. The collection is called Kairos & Chronos, kairos being the Greek term for an opportune time, and chronos being the lapse in time.

Porshe chose the collection name (and these somewhat contradictory terms) to convey his disturbance of gender norms. The menswear collection has structured, well-tailored suits and garments in fresh lime green and peach colours, which are traditionally considered feminine. The shawl lapel on the lime suit is simply fab. The womenswear is structured and has strong lines, such as in the A-line coat, and makes use of red and black for a dramatic expression of different sides of the designer’s state of mind.

Porsche told the The Guardian, Nigeria: “I feel that a man should dress to impress. I feel that a man could dress how he wants to be addressed. Ambitious is the new sexy. Kairos is created for the men with goals, aspirations and dreams ... The womenswear collection, however, comes with limited colours and it connects with my mood in
a way.”

The wearable-art collection is also a resort or Spring/Summer Collection, but features trench coats and blazers that are traditionally autumn/winter staples. Yay for more clothing that challenges gender norms!

Moja Love's drug-busting show, Sizokuthola, is back in hot water after its presenter, Xolani Maphanga's assault charges of an elderly woman suspected of dealing in drugs upgraded to attempted murder. In 2023, his predecessor, Xolani Khumalo, was nabbed for the alleged murder of a suspected drug dealer. What's your take on this?
