On Thursday evening Skoobs Theatre of Books at Monte Casino was host to the book launch of the celebrated and well-known gospel singer, Pastor Jabu Hlongwane.
His debut novel comes after a lifelong yearning to fulfill his initial writing dream from when he was just 15 years old, when he had penned his first novel.
After being discouraged by some close to him, he went to the back of his house, lit the pages of his novel and watched it burn.
Now years later, he has finally listened to his calling and has released his book called Finding Meaning In The Journey Of Life.
Hlongwane told City Press the book represented himself in a way that only the written word can, and is simply an addition to his love for singing.
“I hope people can see that this book will bring about a message that it is their hands to follow the path that they choose and that they should never be stifled by the negativity which surrounds them. God gives you everything you need to get through life. You are born with exactly what you need.”
Jabu recalls his poverty-stricken background and how he knew at a very young age that he wanted to make something of his life, despite his circumstances.
“I was the middle child and I remember being ten years old and telling my family that I would be the first person in my family to get a degree and become a millionaire. I knew I could do it.”
His message to the youth is a simple one: “Follow your calling in life. Don’t ever refuse your own voice because of those around you. Listen to it. And you will flourish.”
