Jesse Suntele is the winner in the second season of the Top Actor Africa competition.

The nail-biting finale took place on BET (DStv channel 129) last night where the 23-year-old beat fellow contestants Shamilla Miller and Alex Khayo.

The Johannesburg-born sound engineer took home the prize of a $10 000 (R156 000) cheque and a 12-month contract with international talent scout J Pervis Talent Agency.

Throughout the 11 weeks of the competition he showed viewers his acting skills in the challenges each actor received for the week.

One of Suntele’s highlights was when he had to master martial arts and stunts while delivering a convincing performance in the “action movie” challenge.

An excited Suntele said: “I am lost for words, it literally hasn’t sunk in yet. I’m overjoyed, but at the same time I’m not sure what just happened. My mind is in three places at once – where I was when I started in this career, what my next move is towards my future and what I am feeling right now. But I’m extremely proud of myself and of the other finalists, Shamilla and Alex.

“Those two will never know how much they pushed me and played a part in how hard I had to work for this. They won’t ever know the effect they’ve had on my life and I’m grateful to have met them and I’m honoured to be an actor alongside them.”

Moja Love's drug-busting show, Sizokuthola, is back in hot water after its presenter, Xolani Maphanga's assault charges of an elderly woman suspected of dealing in drugs upgraded to attempted murder. In 2023, his predecessor, Xolani Khumalo, was nabbed for the alleged murder of a suspected drug dealer. What's your take on this?
