Revel in Rolls-Royce pop-up store at V&A

accreditation

If you are planning a visit to Cape Town this festive, take a trip to the V&A Waterfront to feast your eyes on the Rolls-Royce Wraith, one of the most magnificent Grand Tourings ever created, writes Melinda Ferguson.

If world-class quality and design drama are your thing, you’ll be transported to Car Nirvana by feasting all your senses on the Rolls-Royce Wraith, currently on show at Cape Town’s most high end sports car shop, the Aston Martin Showroom, at the Waterfront.

The Wraith, which takes 450 hours to build and hand-craft is the most powerful series model ever produced by the over century old British manufacturer, owned by BMW since the 1990’s. Wraith’s chassis is based on the iconic Rolls-Royce Ghost and gets its name from an ancient Scottish word for “phantom” or “spirit”.

I got to luxuriate in one a few days ago where I was blown away by the sheer luxury, dramatic fastback lines and exacting interior detail of this dream-on-wheels.

From the lambs wool underfoot carpeting, to the cream hand-stitched leather that swathes the four seat cabin, to the roof dotted with an awe-inspiring cosmos effect and the brollies that glide out of side compartments in both front doors by a press of a knob – I came away breathless.

And even more alluring is that no one Wraith will ever be like another. Rolls-Royce takes bespoke to another level. Through detailed drawings, computer-generated blueprints and world-class craftsmanship, a customer gets to highly personalise his or hers.

I didn’t get to take the Wraith out on a spin – its R8 bar plus price tag kept me firmly planted, stationary in the driver’s seat, but this was one of the rare times in my motoring career where looking and touching was more than enough.

Price: Money is just paper dahlings
Where to see: 1 Breakwater Boulevard, Aston Martin, V&A Waterfront
