Soccer fans took centre stage at Nedbank Cup final

2017-06-27 18:17

Just before the finalists Orlando Pirates and SuperSport United competed for the Nedbank Cup final a few lucky football fans were treated to a day to remember at Moses Mabhida Stadium.

The lucky fans were randomly selected and granted the opportunity to mingle with celebrities. Some won complimentary vouchers to dine with celebrities at the Panorama Bar, where champagne from Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label Brut and the world’s finest vodkas such as the Ciroc was shared with the most humble of fans who could not believe their luck.

Socialite and radio presenter Somizi Mhlongo and television presenter Boity Thulo were co-presenters of this unique experience event earlier in the day before the game started.

City Press spotted actor Nkululeko Tshirumbula and actress Khany Mkanyisa giving their fans undivided attention.

Hip-hop star Anatti looked dope in his yellow track pants and hit maker DJ Mobi Dixon! kept supporters pumping as he dished out his greatest songs on his latest album on the floor.

Vanessa Singh, Nedbank executive head of retail and business banking, said the idea was “to extend the experience and the passion from soccer” fans.

Instead of just coming to the stadium and watching their favourite teams win or lose, the brand wanted to enhance the experiences of some of the fans.

“We are a nation of soccer fans, which is undeniable. We wanted to celebrate our ten-year milestone of investing in people’s passion through the Nedbank Cup. We wanted to go beyond the soccer pitch to highlight the other things that South Africans are passionate about. The whole event was to go beyond what people love besides soccer, it can be music, dancing and also cooking,” said Singh.
