Mzikayise “Mzi” Arnold Mabunda was born on June 6th, 1962, in Mofolo, Soweto to the late Peter and Nompumelelo Muriel (neé Leje) Mabunda.

The eldest of 3 children, Mzi matriculated at Clark Barry High School in the Eastern Cape and immediately thereafter pursued a career in the music industry.

Mzi assumed diverse and meaningful roles throughout his distinguished 28 years career in the music industry.

These include serving as a promoter, marketer, label manager and publisher with various local and international recording labels and artists.

Some of the artists Mzi published during his illustrious career include Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Thandiswa Mazwai and the late reggae legend Lucky Dube.

Mzi was former MD of Gallo Music Publishers and former chairman of NORM (National Organisation for Reproduction Rights in Music).

An avid golfer, Mzi also served on various local and international music industry boards.

At the time of his death, Mzi was head of Global Music Publishers SA, a company he founded many years ago.

Mzi passed away peacefully on Wednesday 20 December 2017 at the Linksfield Netcare Hospital after a short battle with cancer.

He was laid to rest last Thursday, 28 December 2017 at the Nasrec Memorial Park in Johannesburg.

Mzi is survived and lovingly remembered by his daughter Omphemetse, sister Funeka Lynette (Mabunda) Moilwa, nieces, cousins, relatives and dear friends.

May Mzi’s soul, and those of the faithfully departed, find and rest in eternal peace.
