After a wondrous night of music, mixing and mingling on October 23, Night Embassy by Jägermeister is back with its second instalment. This time, it’s through the genius of the Other Village People with their long-awaited event, Queertopia.

Running from November 18-20, Queertopia is set to be the queer celebration that we’ve waited for all year. Founders Andiswa Dlamini and Kefiloe Siwisa have worked tirelessly in the events space to give LGBTIQ+ people the spaces to feel liberated, connect and find their tribe.

Dlamini said:

There is a lack of safer spaces that prioritise LGBTQIA+ communities, and within the prevailing heteronormative constructs, LGBTQIA+ people often face immense discrimination, micro aggressions and even hate crimes. Our concept is about creating queer-centered spaces that normalise and celebrate our differences as if it’s always been that way.

Queertopia released its line-up for the weekend, and it’s filled with South Africa’s hottest talent. Moonchild Sanelly, Nonku Phiri, DBN Gogo and Kat Upendi are set to blow the roof off at the three-day event.

The next two events will be hosted by eclectic group Kombonation, from November 26-28, and DormantYouth from December 1-4. Kombonation promises attendees the Kasi night experience of a lifetime. It’s aptly titled Kaofela, meaning “together we can do more”, which forms part of Kombonation’s moral code.

DormantYouth marries the alt and ante aesthetic to create the Ante Experience – a weekend of electronic fun. Nestled inside an architectural shell meant for large-scale contemporary exhibitions, the event will bring the freshest and dopest alternative electronic music and performances that Joburg locals its honourary citizens have to offer, while providing guests with visual stimuli such as holographic projections.
