Social media, being the sceptical environment it is, thinks something is amiss, considering elections are coming up, but Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, the man with the daunting task of keeping the electricity on, stepped in to shed some light on this electrifying saga.
According to him, Eskom’s recent stellar performance is not just luck; it’s the result of meticulous planning and coordinated efforts between the power utility and government.
Briefing the media on Monday on the implementation of the energy action plan (EAP), the electricity minister, with a spark of optimism, shared:
“We're making significant strides towards bidding farewell to load shedding. However, we're not completely out of the woods yet.”
Ramokgopa said the impressive recovery was achieved through the generation operational recovery plan.
The man with the lightning dance moves noted the "phenomenal" improvements in the unplanned capacity loss factor, signalling a brighter future in the realm of electricity reliability.
“While these improvements deserve applause, we must keep our eyes on the prize – eliminating load shedding. Setbacks are not uncommon on this journey towards reliability,” he cautioned, ensuring that the Eskom Se Push app should stay snugly nestled on your home screen.
On the actual progress on the EAP, Ramokgopa praised the soaring performance of renewable energy projects.
He said:
Looking ahead, Ramokgopa outlined an electrifying future with generating units reviving like dormant superheroes.
“Unit 4 of Medupi Power Station is set to return in September, followed by the reinvigoration of Koeberg unit 2 in the same month. By October, Kusile Power Station unit 6 will be synchronised, adding 2 580MW to our power arsenal.

“The next six months promise a surge of power, ensuring that our performance remains electrifying,” he concluded, leaving us all charged up for what lies ahead.
