A dead end street

City Press conducted a snap survey in Soweto this week, zooming in on Sifikile Street in Zone 4, Meadowlands.

We visited all 13 homes that lined the street and asked how many people between the ages of 20 and 35 lived in the house and whether or not they had jobs. Of the street’s 23 residents in that age group, 13 – or 57% – were unemployed.

The snap survey’s findings are in line with what Stats SA found recently when it compiled the Vulnerable Groups Series I: the social profile of youth, 2009-2014 report.
