The ANC Youth League in KwaZulu-Natal will picket at the Sodwana Bay Guest House in a bid to force it to close down after this week’s disclosure that its owner will not do business with black people or government employees.
The lodge’s racist policies became public this week after an email which its owner, Andre Slade, sent to a guest went viral yesterday.
“Hi. We do not accommodate blacks or government officials any longer,” Slade said in the mail.
Slade’s racist mail, sparked a torrent of outrage online yesterday.
This morning the youth league’s KwaZulu-Natal spokesperson, Mandla Shange, said the organisation would picket at the lodge until it was closed down.
Describing Slade’s policy as “racist”, Shange called on him to reverse it or “face the full might of the youth of our country”.
“The youth league will not tolerate any discrimination of a people based on the colour of their skin. This guest house must conform with the rules of the country or close shop. We will not allow a racist establishment to exist after more than two decades of democracy in this country,” Shange said.
The league would hold a march on the guest house on Monday and thereafter stage a picket to force Slade to either conform with the dictates of the Constitution or close up shop.
“The youth league will therefore march to stage a picket at the guesthouse in order to force its management to reverse its decision. A racist establishment will not operate in this country,” he said.
Referring to the disclosure by Democratic Alliance leader Mmusi Maimane that he had been the victim of racist insults by Slade, Shange said silence on the matter till now “indicates support for the racist agenda which they stand for”.
“We trust our people as we head to the local government elections to punish those who sympathise and wish for a time under the apartheid regime,” Shange said.
Slade did not answer his cellphone.
