Gauteng Premier David Makhura played golf in support of the Good Morning Angels fundraising initiative recently.
The charity event took place at The Els Club in Copperleaf, Centurion.
“I play golf largely in supporting charity. Good Morning Angels is a very good initiative started by Jacaranda FM, and when they approached me to be part of it, I didn’t think twice,” Makhura told City Press.
He admitted that although he’d been playing golf for two years, in golfing terms he was still a “baby”. He said: “I don’t play golf often – that’s why I’m still not a ‘pro’. I only support fundraising initiatives and community developments.”
“I’m still at a developing stage, but I’m enjoying it, especially if it’s for a good cause.”
He said that when he played golf, it was also to give him an opportunity to network with different businesspeople and ordinary people.
“Playing golf helps to strike partnerships between government and civil society organisations, and it helps me to engage with ordinary people and listen to the issues affecting them,” he said.
On the golf course, we also spotted familiar faces: Jacaranda FM’s station manager, Kevin Fine, Jacaranda radio personality Stuntman Maljan, Parlotones frontman Kahn Morbee, musician Jay du Plessis and others.
While golfers were competing with each other, comedienne Tumi Morake kept the guests in stitches.
