EFF leader Julius Malema believes that his party’s bold move to host their final rally on the same day as the ruling ANC has paid off and culminated in a “show of force”.

Thousands of supporters gathered at the Peter Mokaba stadium in Polokwane today for the EFF’s final push before South Africans take to the polls in the local government elections this Wednesday.

The final rally – which doubled up as the party’s third year anniversary celebration – took place on the same day as that of the ANC which held theirs in Joburg.

“This was a success for a three year old party. Just give us five years, you will see miracles,” Malema said.

“South Africa, we are not asking a lot – give us five years. Look at what we have done in three years. It is only the EFF that can take on the ANC toe-to-toe. A party of three years is taking on a party of 103 years.”

The EFF was first off the starting block on the campaign trail when they set off on a countrywide road trip, conducting a series of community meetings – addressed by Malema – spreading their gospel of a “people’s municipality.”

In the run-up to today’s rally, Malema addressed up to ten meetings per day in Polokwane, urging people to attend the rally and vote for the EFF.

The party said in municipalities run by them, school-going girls would have free access to sanitary pads, the poor would not pay for water and electricity, clinics would be open for 24 hours a day, RDP houses would be bigger with all basic amenities, there would be better grants for especially the elderly and a serious investment in early childhood development.

It is unlikely that the first-time players in the local government elections will win more than a few municipalities, but in recent days Malema has emphasised that the winning of municipalities is not as important as growing the numbers of the party in the run-up to the 2019 general election.

Despite this, Malema boldly announced today: “We are ready to take Pretoria, we are ready to take Mangauang, we are ready to take Buffalo City; all the metros belong to the EFF. There is no metro that doesn’t belong to the EFF.”

He assured people that a better life was on the way if they opted for his party.

“The jobs are coming, the jobs are going to be given to the people of South Africa. Only the EFF can deliver jobs. Only the EFF can revive the hope of the hopeless masses of our people. We are saying to you today, all of you listening from home, in Nelson Mandela Bay in PE, the jobs are coming. A better life is coming. Not a better life for the few but a better life for all South Africans, not the ANC members only.”
