The legal scuffle between the National Professional Boxing Promoters Association (NPBPA), minister Zizi Kodwa and Boxing SA (BSA) seems far from over.

The promoters’ structure turned to the court to challenge the decision by minister of sport, arts and culture Kodwa to appoint Mandla Ntlanganiso as acting CEO of BSA.

They demanded that Ntlanganiso’s appointment to be declared irregular and invalid.

However, the Pretoria High Court ruled in favour of Kodwa and BSA last week, on the basis that the NPBPA lacked the necessary locus standi [ability] to bring the application before court.

The promoters body has warned that it will appeal the court ruling.

Through its communications official, Janie Hibler, the NPBPA confirmed to City Press that they were appealing, and that the promoters will follow all the required steps in doing that.

Hibler did not say exactly when will the NPBPA will file the papers.

Immediately after the court ruling, the NPBPA said via a statement that they “respectfully opines that the honourable judge erred and misdirected herself in finding that the NPBPA lacks/lacked the necessary locus standi to bring the application before court for many reasons the NPBPA cannot share at this moment”.

On the other hand, Kodwa welcomed the court ruling.
