Municipalities, and not Eskom, are responsible for South Africa’s sky-high electricity tariffs, says Eskom boss André de Ruyter.
In a virtual press conference this week, De Ruyter said municipalities tacked up to 80% on to the price at which Eskom sold electricity.
He said Eskom’s tariffs were still relatively low and there was little risk that sales would be deterred as a result of the high prices.
