DJ Zinhle kicked her baby daddy, rapper AKA, out of her plush home in northern Joburg last Sunday after a lengthy argument about his closeness to television darling Bonang Matheba.

The two – whose real names are Ntombezinhle Jiyane and Kiernan Forbes – announced their break-up this week in a statement.

On her Instagram account, Jiyane released a statement saying: “We both wish nothing but a great future for each other and remain dear and trusted friends, as well as co-parents to our wonderful baby, Kairo, whose happiness and wellbeing remains our number one priority. We both deeply care for each other and remain close friends.”

But two independent sources – one close to Jiyane and another to Matheba – told City Press this week that Jiyane showed Forbes the door after a lengthy confrontation about his close friendship with Matheba, who has been accused of being the one behind the break-up.

“We have seen them several times driving together near her house in Hyde Park,” said one.

Move! magazine reported this week that Matheba and AKA had become an item, which, the publication hinted, could have been behind Jiyane and Forbes’ split.

Matheba was not available for comment. But on Friday morning she tweeted: “Such garbage so early in the morning.”

Zoe Msutwana, from Matheba’s management team, told City Press on Friday: “We don’t comment on Bonang’s personal life or any rumours surrounding her.”

City Press sent detailed questions to Forbes’ manager, Raphael Benza, who responded: “You should be ashamed of yourself. If not, I’m embarrassed for you. You could be doing so much more.”

Sources close to Matheba and Forbes told City Press their relationship started becoming more “serious” at the Metro FM Music Awards earlier this year.

Two sources told City Press that Jiyane – whose daughter with the rapper is only a month old – once confronted Forbes and Matheba about their close friendship during her pregnancy, but they both denied that anything improper was going on.

“But later, Zinhle suspected that they were both playing her,” said a source close to Jiyane.

On Friday, Jiyane would neither confirm nor deny the rumours that Forbes was dating Matheba. “I have no comment,” was all she would say.

Another source told City Press: “The last straw was two weeks ago, when someone close to Jiyane saw Forbes and Bonang looking cosy during the Loerie Awards.”

The Loeries took place two weeks ago at the Durban International Convention Centre.

A further two sources told City Press that Forbes and Matheba were seen constantly in one another’s company at the BET (Black Entertainment Television) Awards, held in Los Angeles two months ago, and were “very close” at the time.

One source, who attended the awards, said Matheba was part of AKA’s entourage.

“She was following AKA everywhere and, at some point, when AKA was performing at the BET preparty, I saw one of AKA’s people fetching Bonang at the door.”

The split comes after AKA paid damages to Jiyane’s family last weekend. He observed Zulu tradition by paying a cow, a goat and cash to the Jiyanes for having a baby with DJ Zinhle outside of marriage
