An unknown number of suspects have managed to steal at least six laptops containing information which was due to be presented at the Zondo commission.
City Press has reliably learnt that burglars ground the external burglar bars and broke into the offices of Advocate Schabort Potgieter last Friday.
They then gained entry to the building in Kilner Park, Pretoria, and burgled the safe where the evidence was kept.
Potgieter is an attorney acting for the Passenger Rail Agency of SA (Prasa) for the state capture commission submission.
“They went directly to the safe and ground the safe where laptops were stored. They stole six laptops which had information about the capture of Prasa.
“When [Potgieter] came to his office building to collect some documents for the commission on Saturday he noticed that there [had been] a break-in,” a highly placed security cluster source revealed.
City Press has learnt that Potgieter told police at Pretoria Moot Police Station on Saturday that the commission had served various suspects with summons, which, according to him, was “an attempt to defeat the ends of justice”.
The police are investigating a case of business break-in.
At the time of publishing, Potgieter, Prasa and the police had not responded to City Press inquiries.
This is a developing story.
