Metro FM radio personality Lerato Kganyago was officially welcomed by the Ndlela family as their new bride yesterday.

On Tuesday, Kganyago revealed on Metro FM’s show, The Bridge, that she was married. Kganyago co-hosts the show with Dineo Ranaka, Somizi Mhlongo and Naked DJ.

“I am a woman, I’m a married woman that is,” said the excited Kganyago.

She and her husband Thami Ndlela yesterday held the Umembeso, which is, in essence, a meeting of the families and an exchange of gifts.

The family of the bride was meeting the groom’s family, showering them with gifts and clothes.

Nothing much is known about Ndlela. He is a Johannesburg-based businessperson.

For yesterday’s do, Kganyago wore green traditional gear with a duke and tartan blanket over her shoulders.

She arrived in style in a Mercedes-Benz V-Class and was accompanied by her family.

The Kganyago family, carrying blankets and amacansi, gathered outside Ndlela’s gate in Sandhurst, Johannesburg, chanting traditional wedding songs before they presented their daughter to the groom’s family.

The Ndlelas’ gates were opened – a sign that the Ndlela family has welcomed their new bride into their home. The formalities began after the bride was handed to the groom’s family.

As the Ndlela family were showered with gifts, the singing and ululating continued.

Members of the Ndlela family were called up individually to be wrapped in blankets and to receive their gifts.

The ceremony, which was held behind high walls – the media were not allowed – was attended by family, colleagues and close friends.

Security was very tight with armed guards atthe gate.

Last week, it was reported that Ndlela paid lobola for Kganyago and their big white wedding would take place later this year.
