Gauteng Premier David Makhura says the province is ready to move to level 3 of the national lockdown next month.

“At the beginning of next month, we are going to level 3 as Gauteng,” Makhura said during the province’s first virtual provincial legislature meeting on Tuesday.

Early this month the country’s restrictions aimed at slowing down the spread of the Covid-19 coronavirus were relaxed from level 5 to level 4. There has been speculation that some of the country’s infection “hot spots”, which include major metros such as Johannesburg would either remain at level 4 or return to level 5.
