‘How do we stick to 70% rule?’: Scholar transporters demand state support

Subsidies, the allocation of a relief fund and recognition of the challenges faced by their members are just some of the demands being made by the SA Scholar Transporters Association to the government amid the nationwide lockdown.

Speaking to City Press on Monday, chairperson for the association in Gauteng, Xolani Masombuka, said the national lockdown and stringent government regulations to curb the spread of the Covid-19 coronavirus had left most of their members in distress.

Although a lack of income had been a mighty challenge during the almost two months-long lockdown, what was more infuriating for members was the lack of support from national government, especially as schools will return in a phased approach from June 1.
