ANC chief whip Jackson Mthembu has come under fire from the Mpumalanga ANC Youth League.

The Mpumalanga youth wing’s top six said it would expect ANC secretary-general Gwede Mantashe to haul Mthembu before a disciplinary hearing following his calls for President Jacob Zuma and the National Executive Committee (NEC) to step down.

They also threw down the gauntlet to Mthembu to resign alone. Mthembu told City Press at the weekend that the current NEC had failed to salvage the party as it lurched from one crisis to the next.
