The SA Social Security Agency’s (Sassa) alleged stubbornness is the reason that just 10 of the 2.6 million unemployed people who qualified for the special Covid-19 allowance of R350 had received their money by Friday.
Various questions were this week posed in Parliament and elsewhere to try to find out how many of the people who qualify for the monthly allowance because they are unemployed and do not receive any grants had received the money.
Sassa, the entity that administers social welfare grants, on Thursday gave lengthy explanations about how difficult it was to determine who of the 4.9 million applicants would qualify as beneficiaries.
