Black, green and gold – that is colour of the Tambo family blood.
This is according to Oliver Tambo’s son, Dali, who was responding to an article published in the Mail and Guardian today about the Tambo family being split on support for the ANC.
Toysie Tambo, who is the grandniece of the late freedom fighter, told the paper she would be voting for the Economic Freedom Fighters out of frustration with ANC.
“I’m not interested in the ANC because we are still suffering. I’m actually sick and tired...The ANC lied,” she told the paper.
Dali however disagrees with her decision.
“It is her democratic right to do so [vote EFF] but I disagree and so do all the senior members of the Tambo family,” he said.
Dali said the family are firm supporters of the ANC, calling the organisation his family.
“I love it. I love it. Not just because of my father, but because of what it does for this country.”
The businessman said no other political organisation in the world had delivered to its country’s people in the same way the ANC has over 22 years.
However, Dali did mention that the organisation is not perfect and empathised with his family members in the Eastern Cape. He said the legacy of Apartheid left the ANC-led government with scarce resources but that every part of the country was being attended to.
“These things do take time and it’s incredibly difficult. The whole Eastern Cape needs more development. There a number of unemployed people and people who are suffering and need urgent assistance,” he said.
Tambo visited the provincial government as well as the local municipality that serves the Mbizana community, where some of the family resides, and said that they had a lot planned that would be implemented.
Dali said political freedom was quicker to obtain but because of compromises that had to be made, economic freedom was taking longer. But he believed the ANC was committed to seeing this economic freedom realised.
“In time the ANC will get there. The dark will fade into light if we hold fast. If we vote ANC.”
