The police and the army will intensify patrols in areas identified as hotspots when the country lowers its restrictions to level three next week.
This was announced by Minister of Defence and Military Veterans Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula on behalf of the Justice, Crime Prevention and Security Cluster (JCPS) during a media briefing on Thursday.
The announcement follows President Cyril Ramaphosa’s address to the nation on Sunday, where he indicated that the national covid-19 command council had identified epidemiological hotspots – those areas that have more than 5 people infected per 100 000 of the population or areas where the infections were increasing at a fast pace.
