ANC chief whip Stone Sizani, whose resignation was announced today, is “very happy” about the opportunity to represent South Africa as ambassador in Germany.

He told journalists outside the National Assembly that he had been informed by ANC general secretary Gwede Mantashe last Thursday that he would be redeployed.

To prevent speculation in the corridors, his resignation was announced at an urgent caucus meeting today.

He confirmed that he had resigned and said he was always happy to go where the organisation asked him to go.

“I’m going to Pretoria for 10 weeks of training. They have indicated that I will replace comrade [Makhenkesi] Stofile as ambassador to Germany.

“I feel very happy about it and the confidence shown in me is very welcome.”

He denied that his sudden move was a sign that he has not performed well in his chief whip position.
