While universities are considering the proposals for the return of students to campuses, an employee at the Vaal University of Technology (VUT) has tested positive for the Covid-19 coronavirus.

VUT spokesperson Mike Khuboni confirmed that one of the essential service workers had tested positive for the virus. He said in the employee was in the intensive care unit at a hospital and that 16 employees who came into contact with the infected person were tested. Eight of them tested negative while others were still awaiting their results.

This comes amid ongoing plans made by the ministerial task team appointed by Higher Education, Science and Innovation Minister Blade Nzimande as a response to disruptions caused by Covid-19.
