Western Cape Premier Alan Winde has fired the first shots in the race to move to level 3 of the nationwide lockdown, which President Cyril Ramaphosa announced on Wednesday evening would not be granted to every province or region.

Ramaphosa announced that the national Covid-19 coronavirus command council was preparing for level 3, which will be implemented from the end of May, but only in certain areas.

The president explained that consultation with various stakeholders was the next step towards easing the lockdown. The consultations will not only determine which areas will have less stringent regulations, but will also look at the parts of the country which will remain at level 4.
