Busi fights for survival

Embattled Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane is heading to court to halt the parliamentary process to investigate her fitness to hold office – a process that could lead to her ouster.

In addition to the parliamentary process, Mkhwebane is also being probed for perjury by the Hawks, and the SA Revenue Service (Sars) is conducting an audit into her financial affairs.

Marius Fransman in bloody fisticuffs

Former Western Cape ANC chairperson Marius Fransman says that a text message alleging that he was involved in a fist fight that left him and his opponent bloodied and bruised was aimed at discrediting him.

Fransman, who was suspended from the party for five years following allegations of sexual assault, says he knows exactly who’s behind the incident.

Prasa’s train fleet needs brakes

Passenger rail agency Prasa has until Tuesday to submit plans on how to stock up with much-needed brake blocks for Metrorail trains – or face the music.

Should it fail to do so, executives and the rail company could be fined or sentenced to up to 15 years in jail.

Zille stayed at DA funder’s house

Helen Zille stayed rent-free for almost three months in a Cape Town property owned by one of three authors of the explosive review report which recommended that then leader Mmusi Maimane be given the axe.

But Zille is adamant that her stay in the holiday home of a DA donor and Capitec boss, Michiel le Roux, was not a conflict of interest, given that it was before her comeback to politics when she had retired at the end of her term as premier.

Axed mayor on comeback

Controversial former eThekwini mayor Zandile Gumede wants to be regional chairperson.

Gumede, who is playing the unity card ahead of the eThekwini conference, has reportedly been lobbying for support in her bid to become the regional chairperson amid fears that the governing party might lose the city of Durban in next year’s local government elections.
