‘You created the chaos’ – ANC under fire in Parliament for varsity violence

Promises make debt. That was the gist of the opposition’s response to Blade Nzimande’s ministerial statement on the ongoing university crisis.

But there was one thing that achieved consensus during the higher education and training minister’s statement in the National Assembly assembly today – the violence on campuses was condemned by all the parties except the Economic Freedom Fighters, who didn’t refer to it at all.

Showing a picture of an ANC election poster that promised free education, Inkatha Freedom Party MP Mkhuleko Hlengwa said: “Cheap election promises always end in chaos!”
