The impact of Marvel’s Black Panther film is undeniable. The comic-book character, which was created in 1966 and was the first black superhero to go mainstream, was a huge cultural phenomenon and a historic box office success that sparked conversation all over social and traditional media.

Banter about the film evolved from discussions about the meaning of representation into something grander – a spectacular global celebration of black culture.

This film recognises and celebrates everything from traditional African communities to African-American political debates, from the power and beauty of black women to the conservation of identity, all within the blossoming borders of the fictional African nation of Wakanda.

Black Panther’s greatest legacy will not only be what it’s done for Marvel, Hollywood or box office records, but what it has done for black culture.
