Xolisani Ndongeni’s camp is confident the boxer will be crowned the new World Boxing Association Pan-African lightweight champion on Saturday night.
Ndongeni, who holds the South African title, will trade punches with veteran Mzonke Fana at Emperors Palace, Kempton Park.
Ndongeni hails from Mount Frere in the Eastern Cape, and is now based in Johannesburg.
The upcoming bout will be his maiden match under the Golden Gloves banner.
The 25-year-old Ndongeni is undefeated in 17 professional bouts.
Fana is an experienced campaigner from Khayelitsha in the Western Cape.
His professional record reads 31 wins, seven defeats and three draws in 41 paid fights.
The 41-year-old has previously held the national super featherweight crown as well as the International Boxing Federation (IBF) and World Boxing Council international titles.
Ndongeni’s trainer, Colin Nathan, believes his charge has what takes to be victorious, as he is “extremely fit”.
“Ndongeni is in the best possible shape of his boxing career, especially since he moved to Johannesburg.
“There is no doubt that he will outclass Fana.
“I can predict a knockout in the first four rounds,” said Nathan.
Ndongeni is being touted as the next Vuyani “The Beast” Bungu, the former IBF junior featherweight champion – who made an unprecedented 13 successful title defences.
Ndongeni last fought in February when he beat Vusumzi Tyatyeka on points over six rounds at the Orient Theatre in East London.
Fana, too, was confident of winning.
“As an experienced campaigner, I have prepared well for the bout.
“I’m going to give this man the fight of his life,” he said.
The main bout on the Chesa Nyama bill will be the International Boxing Organisation light heavyweight title between Thomas “Tommy Gun” Oosthuizen and Robert Berridge from New Zealand
