The South African U-23 team hammered Angola 3-0 in their 2020 Olympics qualifier at Bidvest Stadium on Tuesday night to advance to the third round of the qualifying campaign.
Goals by SuperSport United duo Jamie Webber and Teboho Mokoena, as well as a late strike from Portugal-based striker Luther Singh earned coach David Notoane’s side a 6-1 aggregate victory after they won the first leg 3-1 in Luanda last Friday.
The win for South Africa confirmed a meeting with Zimbabwe in the third round where the aggregate winner will then progress to the U-23 Afcon tournament in November to decide the three nations that will represent Africa at the Olympics in Tokyo, Japan, next year.
Zimbabwe beat Mozambique 2-0 in the early kick-off to book a date with with their regional neighbours when the qualifiers resume in June.
