The Gauteng Jaguars will lock horns with the North West Flames in what promises to be a thriller league final at the Mangaung Indoor Sports Centre today.

The Jaguars defeated the Western Cape Southern Stings 60-43 in the first semifinal yesterday at the same venue to make it into their fourth consecutive final.

The Stings were on fire, ending the first quarter 15-11, with shooter Jaubuaive Zauana doing wonders in front of the poles and scoring almost all the goals that came her way.

Jaguars coach Jenny van Dyk made a crucial change when she replaced Protea Ina-Marie Venter with former Protea Chrisna van Zyl, and the veteran player’s experience immediately made the difference.

The Jaguars started clawing themselves back into the match and, less than two minutes before half-time, they went into the lead. At half-time, they were 25-23 ahead, and won the second quarter by 14 goals to eight.

The North West Flames came to the party when they beat the Gauteng Fireballs, prompting commentators to say that netball should be played in this way.

The Flames denied the Fireballs an all-Gauteng final after coming from behind to steal the show in a fast-paced match that
ended 51-49.

Today will go down as a historic moment for the Flames as they make their maiden appearance in the final since the Brutal Fruit Netball Cup started four years ago.

The winners will travel to New Zealand to play that country’s top-ranked team.

The match starts at 12.30pm.
