Polokwane City duo of Jozef Vukusic and Jabu Maluleke were on Wednesday unveiled as Absa Premiership coach and player of the month for October, respectively.

The Limpopo-based outfit enjoyed an unbeaten run last month, starting with a draw against SuperSport United and culminating with wins over Kaizer Chiefs and Maritzburg United.

In claiming the award, Maluleke beat Vincent Pule of Orlando Pirates and the Bidvest Wits duo of Thabang Monare and Simon Murray, while Vukusic edged out Gavin Hunt (Wits) and Milutin Sredojevic (Pirates) to the coaches’ gong.

“When I received a call that I was the winner, I was overwhelmed but honoured at the same time,” the 36-year-old Maluleke told the media during the awards ceremony at the Premier Soccer League headquarters.

“We’d like to share the award with supporters, the technical team, the club management and my family back in Slovakia,” said Vukusic, who was appointed the coach of City at the beginning of the season, taking over from Bernard Molekwa who is his assistant.

Vukusic and Maluleke became the second pair from the same club to win the PSL monthly awards after the Chiefs duo of Giovanni Solinas and Khama Billiat won the accolades for September.

City who are fourth on the log, suffered just their third loss of the campaign with a narrow 2-1 defeat to Orlando Pirates in Polokwane on Tuesday night.

Rise and Shine will next face AmaZulu in a league match on Sunday.
