The Zambian Football Association is tapping into South African talent to strengthen the country’s chances of qualifying for the 2021 Afcon finals.
The Zambian national team has roped in Sudesh Singh in a technical advisory role ahead of Chipolopolo’s opening qualifier against African champions Algeria on Thursday. Singh, who will work with head coach Aggrey Chiyangi, was part of Safa’s technical search committee that recommended Molefi Ntseki for the Bafana Bafana head coach post.
Singh works part time at Safa and has cleared his appointment with Safa president Danny Jordaan.
“It’s a good new experience,” an elated Singh told City Press prior to his departure with the Zambian national team to Algeria last night.
“I have been studying videos of the opposition for the past two weeks – [analysing] the players and the team’s strengths and weaknesses for hours,” he said.
Algeria are African champions, after all. Singh has recommended two local experts, video analyst Lucian Friedman and conditioning coach Tevin Blignaut, to the Zambians. Former champions Zambia, who failed to qualify for the last Afcon finals in Egypt, are in Group H, which includes Algeria, Zimbabwe and Botswana.
The top two sides from each of the 12 groups will earn a ticket to the 2021 showpiece in Cameroon.
