Mamelodi Sundowns’ Oupa Manyisa is upbeat about the first game of the Premier Soccer League (PSL) 2018/19 season against cross-town rivals Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday.

Speaking to City Press on Wednesday at Sundowns headquarters in Chloorkop, he said the team was looking forward to the match.

“We are all looking forward to it because that is what we have been waiting for,” said the midfielder.

The Downs-Chiefs match will be the opening game of the 2018/19 PSL season after the teams met at the Shell Helix Ultra Cup fortnight ago where the Pretoria giants won 2-1.

Manyisa said it not too soon in the season to play their rivals.
After winning the league last season, Sundowns did not have a break as they were also preparing for the CAF Champions League.

Manyisa said as football players they did not mind not spending time with their families.

“As football players, we said we wanted to play football and that is what we have been doing.”

After the departure of Percy Tau and Khama Billiat, Sundowns signed new players and Manyisa said they were fitting well in Pitso Mosimane’s team.

Manyisa was speaking as the team unveiled their third kit for the 2018/19 season – as a tribute to the Vodacom Bulls.

Tau joined English Premier Soccer league side Brighton and Hove Albion and Billiat joined Chiefs.

“There is a saying ‘Tshwane ra tshwana – in Pretoria we are the same’,” said the team’s spokesperson Thulani Thuswa.

“This new third kit symbolises the City of Champions and what greater way to pay tribute to our fellow city giants than by donning their famous blue.”

The third Sundowns kit is available in stores at the retail price of R799.

The game will start at 3pm at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.
