“This came at the right time. It’s escapism and I can leave everything behind to focus on my work –something which I love to do.”

This is how actress Enhle Mbali Mlotshwa reacted after landing a role on Mzansi Magic’s telenovela, Isibaya.

Mlotshwa is picking up the pieces, focusing on her work and being a great mother to her two sons after a rough 2019 which was dominated by her much-publicised divorce from Nkosinathi “DJ Black Coffee” Maphumulo.

The 31-year-old, who made her debut on the show on Thursday night, plays vixen Sizakele Sibiya.

She is acting alongside veteran actor Hamilton Dlamini, who plays her father, Andile Sibiya, on-screen.

The TV personality described Sizakele as a slay queen who has brains.

“She is very unapologetic, passive and strong. It is so easy to play her because she is the opposite of who I am,” she said.

The Sibiyas are a new family at Bhubesini and they are going shake up things at the Zungus.

Mlotshwa said she had received a call from the show’s scriptwriter, telling her there was a character that was written specifically for her and they would love to develop it.

“We had a meeting and the following day I was on set shooting my scenes,” she said.

Mlotshwa has started this year on a high note – her Essie Apparel fashion line was featured in last month’s edition of Vogue Italia magazine.

She said she wanted to take her fashion line to another level this year.

“My fashion line has been invited to showcase in the US next month. I am looking forward to spreading my wings this year.”

She also stars as Nova on Netflix’s first African original series, Queen Sono, which features, among others, actress and TV personality Pearl Thusi, actress and singer Abigail Kubeka, veteran Connie Chiume, Vuyo Dabula and James Ngcobo.

“Nova works at a bank and she is involved in a love triangle, but she handles the situation very well, because she is emotionally mature.”
