He is known for his deep voice and smooth rap flow, but now award-winning rapper Kwesta is changing things up.

Already a brand ambassador for Butan Wear, he has partnered with online store Spree to be the face of The Collective, a new menswear line. City Press caught up with Kwesta during his shoot for the range.

“Who said I’m just a rapper? I wouldn’t say I’m a fashionista, but it’s definitely something that plays a huge role in what I do,” he told us.

Certainly one of the more photogenic local rappers, he is the perfect pick for the campaign.

Besides highlighting comfort as a priority when choosing what to wear, as a man often in the spotlight, he takes pride in looking good.

Kwesta believes that campaigns like The Collective help expand the space for new menswear designers locally, in an industry that sees it as secondary to women’s fashion.

“It’s cool to see guys getting into fashion. And I think the relationship with music helps that. Music like hip-hop comes with its own style, which people identify with.”

Moja Love's drug-busting show, Sizokuthola, is back in hot water after its presenter, Xolani Maphanga's assault charges of an elderly woman suspected of dealing in drugs upgraded to attempted murder. In 2023, his predecessor, Xolani Khumalo, was nabbed for the alleged murder of a suspected drug dealer. What's your take on this?
